Founded in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It's also considered one of the top universities in the world. This private Ivy League school has its main 209-acre Cambridge campus centered in Harvard Yard where it extends into Boston's Harvard Square neighborhood. Nearby you'll find the freshman dormitories and the residential houses for upperclassmen. Across the John W. Weeks bridge over the Charles River, you'll find the Allston campus of Harvard that includes the Harvard Business School and Harvard Stadium. A few miles south of the Cambridge Campus is the Longwood Medical and Academic Area in Boston, where you'll find Harvard's School of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Public Health.

With Harvard's trio of sprawling campuses, there's plenty to explore on and off the campus. On-campus, visit the famous John Harvard statue, which despite popular opinion does not actually represent the original benefactor of the namesake university. You'll also find the Science Center Observatory, the Widener Library, and the grand outdoor center of the yard, Tercentenary Theatre. Behind Lamont Library, you'll find Dudley Garden, a hidden gem of a spot to study while taking in the fresh air. Don't forget to visit the Harvard Art Museums, which include the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum. You'll also find the Harvard Semitic Museum, Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, and Museum of Natural History.

After touring the main campus, be sure to head out to Harvard Square where you can explore the Cambridge Public Library or enjoy a show at the American Repertory Theater. You can even get a historical tour of the Cooper-Frost-Austin House, the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, and the Longfellow House.
