How Apple CarPlay Works

You can now use SpotHero with Apple CarPlay to search for parking, book a spot, and navigate there, all within your car’s dash! For places you go often, like work or a favorite restaurant, you can save favorite places in the SpotHero app and quickly book via CarPlay. When you need parking in a pinch, search nearby to find the closest spots to your car’s location. Whether you book online, in the app, or in dash, use SpotHero for CarPlay to access your parking pass and navigate to your spot with ease.

What You’ll Need

To reference an already booked reservation and navigate to your spot, you’ll need:

✓  A CarPlay enabled vehicle

✓  SpotHero iOS app downloaded on your mobile device

✓  iOS 14 or Higher


To make a purchase within CarPlay, you’ll need to be logged into a SpotHero account on the app with the following info saved:

✓ Default credit or debit card (At this time, Apple does not support Apple Pay within CarPlay experiences.)

✓ Phone number

✓ Vehicle make/model and license plate

✓ Precise location permission (for search nearby capability)

CarPlay FAQs

How can I select a parking facility with CarPlay?

There are a few options for selecting a spot with CarPlay. From the home screen, you can use Quick Rebook to reserve a recently booked spot. From the search screen you can search near one of your saved places (as designated in the app on your account), a recent location searched on your account, or nearby to your vehicle’s current location. The closest five facilities near your destination will be listed and include pricing for your reservation.

How can I select my reservation duration with CarPlay?

Bookings made with CarPlay will start immediately and you can select your reservation duration in hourly intervals of 3, 6, 8, 10, or 12 hours from the start time. Edits and extensions to your reservation must be made in the mobile app.

Can I change my vehicle or payment method within CarPlay?

CarPlay reservations will reference default settings in your SpotHero account for payment method and vehicle information. Make sure your account is up to date before booking with CarPlay, or edit reservation details in the mobile app after booking.

Can I use my available SpotHero credit?

Yes. Any available SpotHero credit will be displayed at checkout and applied to your reservation.

How do I redeem my CarPlay reservation?

You can reference your parking pass for redemption instructions from the home screen in CarPlay. Certain locations will still require use of your phone upon arrival. For instance, if your facility requires a QR code, the code will be sent to your phone within the SpotHero app and your email address. You will need to pull this up to scan into the facility upon arrival.

Can I use Siri to search for a location?

No. At this time, search with CarPlay is limited to quick rebook of recent reservations, saved places (as designated in the app on your account), a recent location searched on your account, or nearby to your vehicle’s current location.

How do I get SpotHero on my CarPlay dashboard?

For CarPlay compatible connected vehicles, simply have the SpotHero app downloaded to your mobile device and have an account set up. You must be using iOS 14 or higher. With the app on your phone, it will automatically sync to your CarPlay dashboard.

Can I still extend my reservation booked through CarPlay?

Yes. To extend a reservation, you will need to access it through the SpotHero mobile app.
