SoHo, short for "south of Houston Street," is a world-famous neighborhood in Manhattan known for being fashion-forward and modern while retaining several characteristics of the old New York City such as low-rise buildings atop narrow side streets, some of which still have cobblestones. Bound by 6th Avenue to the west and Canal Street to the south, with Little Italy to the east, people come from all over the world to see designer boutiques and legendary nightlife in SoHo.

FAQs

Why is there so little free parking in SoHo?

Manhattan is famous for not being amenable to cars, and this is especially true south of Houston Street. SoHo does not have any two-way streets except for West Broadway. While two-way streets in Manhattan tend to disallow parking to give buses the right-of-way, the narrow one-way streets of SoHo make parking an even more difficult endeavor since there are almost no two-way streets to easily return to if a side street is full. Spring Street between West Broadway and Sullivan Streets is also completely closed off to cars to prioritize pedestrians.

Where are you likely to find free parking in SoHo?

Wooster, Greene, and Sullivan streets are your best chance to find free parking spaces, particularly if you are far enough from the traffic of Canal Street.
