Parking Near Seaport

The Seaport is a historic area of Lower Manhattan, situated along the East River directly across from Brooklyn. Though technically a part of the Financial District, the Seaport is one of 20 designated historic districts in New York City. The Seaport boasts some of the oldest architecture in the city, featuring restored buildings dating back to the early 1800s. Its use as a port is even older than that, dating back to 1625 when the Dutch West India Company opened the area’s first pier. For over 200 years, the Seaport remained a vital trade location with a long and storied history that includes occupation by the British during the American Revolution, as well as being the site where the newly founded United States first engaged in trade with the Chinese Qing Dynasty.

Dedicated to preserving the architecture and history of the area, the South Street Seaport Museum is the main attraction when visiting the Seaport and is meant to be an immersive experience that transports visitors back to the port’s heyday in the mid 19th century. Beyond history and architecture, it features a large mall if you’re looking to shop. Also of note is the historic Bridge Cafe, which claims to be “The Oldest Drinking Establishment in New York.” Sadly, the bar was damaged during Hurricane Sandy and was forced to close but plans to restore and reopen it are currently underway.

Use SpotHero to reserve your parking spot prior to your trip to the Seaport so you don’t have to worry about finding parking once you make it into the city.

FAQs

Is there street parking in the Seaport?

The Seaport is a small, highly trafficked tourist area, not to mention being located in the Financial District, which doesn’t allow street parking altogether in certain areas between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. This means that street parking can be difficult. For that reason, booking parking with SpotHero in advance is highly recommended.
